If you received health insurance through the MarketPlace (Obamacare) in 2024, then you must bring your form 1095-A with the rest of your tax forms.
Form 8962
On the tax return, this form reconciles what you paid for the insurance, what the government paid as a subsidy, and your actual income.
- If you estimated your income correctly at the time of enrollment, then Form 8962 should balance on the tax return.
- If your income was less than estimated, then you may be entitled to a Premium Tax Credit which would pay you back for some of the money that you spent on premiums. This credit will get added to your refund.
- If your income exceeds your estimate, you may need to repay some subsidies, which could reduce your refund or increase your tax owed.
Form 1095-A will be mailed to you in January like most other tax forms. If you did not receive the form, you can log into your healthcare.gov account and follow these instructions.
